Stolen Words

Written by Melanie Florence & Illustrated by Gabrielle Grimard

This book is about a school aged Cree girl who asks her grandfather how to say “grandfather” in Cree. He explains to her that when he was a child he was taken to a residential school where he had his language stolen from him. The story ends with the child gifting an Introduction to Cree book to her grandfather and helping to begin the process of language reclamation.
